The biggest event in any piping fan's calendar is certainly the
annual World Pipe Band Championships, affectionately known as 'The
Worlds'. The event, delivered by Glasgow Life in association with the
Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, has had a long association with
Glasgow, and for many years has been bringing top flight international
piping competition and a wonderfully entertaining event to the city.
The World Pipe Band Championships returned to Glasgow Green on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 August.
The winners of 2015 were Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia, a Scottish band. This year 230 bands competed over the 2 days with 40,000 people in attendance over the 2 days of competition and thousands more following the actions via live web streaming.
In 2014, 223 pipe bands congregated on Glasgow Green to compete, with some
30,000 people attending the event. Field Marshal Montgomery, from Northern Ireland, won the 2014 World Champions title.
