The Worlds 2014: 300 performances in one day…
Following the feedback from the 2013 World Pipe Band Championships a new format has been agreed for the 2014 event. This will see the majority of the event hosted on one day with some 300 performances taking place at Glasgow Green on Saturday 16 August. In addition, Grade One qualifiers will take place on Friday 15 August.
A spokesman for the RSPBA said: “Our absolute priority is to provide an event which focuses on the needs of the bands, ensuring the very best in pipe band competition and performance. Due to the sheer volume of bands competing at the World Pipe Band Championships, it was agreed after the 2012 event that it is not possible to judge every performance in one day.
“Building on the success of this year, we will bring the Grade One qualifiers forward to Friday, allowing us to once again host the majority of the competition on Saturday.
“We have listened to the feedback of the competitors and spectators and responded to ensure we continue to host the premier pipe band competition in the world.”
